Indian Hollow

The Indian Hollow Reservation mitigation bank site is located west of Grafton in LaGrange Township, on the west side of Indian Hollow Road, approximately 1.5 miles south of Parsons Road, Lorain County, Ohio. The mitigation site is owned by the Lorain County Metropolitan Park District and located on a ±115 acre parcel with approximately forty-seven acres of wetland reestablishment and establishment and associated buffer proposed for the ±58 acre agricultural tracts located along Indian Hollow Road.

This mitigation site is located in the Black/Rocky River subbasin, USGS Hydrologic Unit (HUC) #04110001. For impacts to jurisdictional wetlands, the geographic service area includes the entire HUC #04110001 (Black/Rocky River) in which the mitigation banking site is located. In accordance with the Ohio Revised Code, mitigation for impacts to Category 1 isolated wetlands or 0.5 acres or less of Category 2 isolated wetlands permitted under a level one review may be located at any mitigation bank within the Ohio portion of the regulatory boundaries of the Buffalo Corps District, including Indian Hollow Reservation Mitigation Bank.

Restoration at this site will add high quality natural habitat and aquatic resources in place of an agricultural field and provide greater connectivity to surrounding wildlife corridors and habitats including blocks of mature forest, numerous wetlands, forested/vegetated drainage ways, a moderate number of ponds/aquatic habitat, tree lines, pastures/herbaceous fields and a major river corridor, the East Branch Black River. Dent Ditch bisects the ±57 acre mature upland-wetland forest next to the proposed restoration area and connects northwesterly to the West Branch of the Black River. Approximately 22 acres of the ±57 acre mature forest is rated category 2/3 forested wetlands, which include scrub-shrub and buttonbush communities, mixed herbaceous-woody swales and vernal pools.
