Wetland Mitigation

White Star Park

The White Star Park mitigation sites (White Star Park, White Star EA and White Star III) are located in Sandusky County, Ohio, within the boundaries of the metropolitan park of the same name. The White Star Park and White Star EA mitigation wetlands comprise over 100 acres of emergent herbaceous, wet meadow, scrub-shrub and forested wetland habitats. White Star III will add approximately 50 acres of emergent herbaceous and scrub-shrub wetland habitats to the White Star complex. Sandusky County Park District will integrate the wetlands into White Star Park, using the restored wetlands for environmental education. All restored wetlands will be category 2 and 3 wetlands, managed and maintained as wetlands in perpetuity. White Star Park and White Star EA have met all their performance goals with portions of White Star EA attaining category 3 vegetation IBI scores.

Subject to the approval of the regulatory agencies, the White Star III site is an appropriate location for mitigation for wetland impacts to category 2 or 3 wetlands in the same (HUC #04100011, Sandusky River, with portions of White Star III located in HUC #04100010, Portage River) or adjacent watersheds (HUC #04100008, Blanchard River and HUC #04100009, Maumee River) and for impacts to category 1 wetlands and for impacts to 3 acres or less of category 2 isolated wetlands anywhere within the boundaries of the Buffalo District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Credits are available at White Star EA and White Star III for $45,000 per acre.
